Veteran Travels Several Hours to Visit J.S. Waters Student
Students at J.S. Waters wrote letters to military veterans of the Vietnam conflict that led to the letters being presented at the Vietnam Veterans Recognition in Charlotte on March 31st.  A veteran who received a letter from a J.S. Waters student was so touched by the letter that he traveled from his home in Goldsboro to the school on April 3 to meet the student.

Chatham Middle Announces Spring Musical Production
Chatham Middle School will present The Wizard of Oz in the Jordan-Matthews High School auditorium on Thursday and Friday, May 3 and 4, at 7:00 PM and in a matinee performance on Saturday, May 4, at 2:00 PM. Admission prices will be $5 for adults and $2 for students. The public is invited to attend.

Sixteen Vehicles Pass Stopped Buses in a Single Day
On a designated day each March, bus drivers in school districts across the state record incidents of vehicles passing school buses making stops to pick up or drop off students. State school transportation officials conduct the Statewide School Bus Stop Arm Violation Count and compile data from the 115 state school systems to use in its ongoing safety efforts.  More...

Chatham County Schools Awarded District Accreditation
Superintendent Robert Logan announced today Chatham County Schools was granted District Accreditation from the AdvancED Accreditation Commission, the national commission that confers the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI) accreditation seal. This means that the district and all of its schools are accredited, and that Chatham County Schools is recognized across the nation as a quality school system.

High school students from Chatham County were among the 2,000 students and club advisors to attend the fifty-eighth annual FBLA State Leadership Conference held March 22-24 in Greensboro. The conference for business students included an opening ceremony with a motivation speaker, various workshops, regional voting rallies, competitions, and an awards ceremony.

Virginia Cross Elementary to Hold Thrift Sale/Book Fair
Virginia Cross Elementary will be having a Thrift Sale/Book Fair on Saturday, March 24, from 7:30AM-11:00AM. The Thrift Sale will be held in the school cafeteria while the Book Fair will in the media center. Virginia Cross Elementary staff member donated the items for the sale. Proceeds will benefit the local PTA Thrift Shop program and will support the Virginia Cross Elementary PTA specifically. Chatham County Schools Launches Budget Priorities Survey
As Chatham County Schools faces a budget shortfall, the district is asking residents to weigh in on issues surrounding educational programs and school operations. As part of a series of planned and systemic communication initiatives between the district and key stakeholders, a Budget Priorities Survey will be launched on Thursday, February 2, 2012. Parents, teachers, staff and community members will be invited to share both their perceptions, as well as suggestions on how to make Chatham perform to even higher standards in the face of shrinking financial resources.
